This handsome fellow is Samba. Samba’s best friend is away at college. I was commissioned to create a painting of this old gentleman for his best friend as a surprise. I thought I would share with you a few of the steps on my way to a final painting.
The First Photo
This is the photo that Samba’s OTHER human sent to me to create a custom oil painting of this handsome fellow.
The Closeup
But Samba’s other human wanted a closeup of that handsome face, so I cropped the photo to make it more usable for my painting work.
Black Wash
This is the initial black wash over the finished sketch. Since Samba is a black dog, it makes sense that this would be the prominent color in the wash.
Final Painting
This is the final painting of Samba. I am quite pleased with how it turned out. I think it captured that personality and I hope the gift surprised his favorite human!
